Avon Tyrrell week of 24 March 2008

Hi,

Well what news do I have for you, I suppose the most exciting is the lodge build will begin again and the builders are back.

We had a residential visit from Newlands Primary School for a few days and what an excited group they were, so good to have such a nice group staying.

The maintenance team has also almost finished replacing my old steel oil tanks with nice new green shiny tanks which we have managed to hide away. This has meant the walkway between the front of the House and Reception is now greatly improved and is more welcoming for our visitors.

Another good week all in all here at Avon Tyrrell and if you want more information please call our Customer Services Team on 01425 672347 or email info@ukyouth.org

Avon Tyrrell week of 10 March

Hi everybody,

Just a short update today.
We have had a small school group in the house this week, Beechwood School, and groups in our self catering lodges including a PTV group.
We also had a visit from some volunteers from Accenture who did some manual work, not normal for these office based people. These keen volunteers managed to help start building the base for one of our board games, plus clear more scrub from between our lakes and do the majority of work on building an oak fishing swim, which did take two attempts to get the posts straight as the keen eyed Centre Manager was grumpy about it not being straight the first time with the foundations of the straw bale classroom

.

Unfortunately we have made no progress on the straw bale classroom this week, but the new lodge Black Firs has made it to roof level. However because of the close proximity of some power cables, which are due to be buried under ground, work has now all but stopped on this build until the electricity board can move the lines. We have to thank the electricity board for being so helpful in our hour of need and hope to resume the build in a couple of weeks;

Avon Tyrrell

Hi again,

Well this week we began the build of Black Firs Lodge and after 4 days work you can already see how much work has been done. We hope to have this building up and running by the 1st May 2008 and with its extra facilities for disabled groups and modern appliances it is sure to be a popular lodge, so book early by contacting info@ukyouth.org We have of course run into one or two little problems already but with the ingenuity of the Estonian Builders we are getting around those.

This week we have had two schools visiting, St Lawrence Primary School and St Lukes Primary School and what a lively bunch they were. Fortunately they had good weather most the week and had plenty of fun as well as being well fed by our chefs. The schools were also the first to use our new shop facility, named The Forest Lodge Shop, which is now up and fully running and provides our visitors with more choice of sovereigns and general store items, for self catering;

Finally I have to tell you that unfortunately we have made no progress on the Straw Bale Classroom because of a slight planning hiccup which we hope to overcome very shortly, fingers crossed.

Enjoy your weekend, we know the visitors to http://www.avontyrrell.org.uk/ this weekend most surely will…
