Avon Tyrrell

Hi all, what wonderful weather we are having and we have a very busy week this week with me, The Avon Tyrell House, full with a visit from Hythe Primary School, and our lodges are all full with different groups. Activities are busy with no spare capacity and now the evenings are a little longer the activities are running until 5pm. With the site so full we can once again hear constant laughter and chit chat from all our visitors.

I am happy to tell you that we have now completed the brick piers for the new Black Firs lodge, see plan below, and the lodge itself will begin being built on the 2nd March 2008.

Finally I am extremely pleased to tell you that we broke the ground for our straw bale classroom and have dug the footings. Fortunately although located by our small lake with the zip wire running over the lake, the ground is extremely dry and stable. We have met with the building control officer and agreed our foundation plan which includes the use of recycled tyres, see below. We will continue to give you an update as we build.

Finally we are always pleased to hear your comments so please use our website to talk to us http://www.avontyrell.org.uk/ or respond to this blog.
